Biography
Neil Spencer Bruce is a multi-instrumental musician, composer and highly qualified Audio Engineer living in the UK, and has been involved with gigging, audio production and design for the last 20 years. Neil specialises in Sound Design and Composition for Film, Computer Games and Television. Neil founded and runs his own audio production company Syncrosound.

Neil also writes and produces his unique brand of “cinematic guitar” music under the name of Light B4 Sound.

Neil has numerous qualifications to his name, including an MSc in Signal Processing (University of Surrey), Dip (Mus) in Music (The Open University), B.Eng (Hons) in Electroacoustics from (Univerisity of Salford) and Diploma in Media Composition (Film Institute of L.A.). Neil is currently involved as a researcher on the Positive Soundscape Project at the University of Salford.

Neil has also worked at the world renowned Manor Mobile studios on a number of projects, including Dr Alban,Al Green, Barbara Cooke Robert Plant and Jimmy Page and The White Room for Channel 4 Music Productions. In addition to working on numerous recording projects for other artists, and as a session player.

As a guitarist, Neil has played and gigged in numerous bands around the world and is available for session and gigging work. To see more, check out the performances on the guitar page.

Neil has also spent time working in the IT industry, involved in the development and migration of global enterprise web based data services using core Microsoft technologies (including Visual Basic, C++, COM, MTS and SQL Server), and then moved on to project management (working on one of the first enterprise wide Content Management Systems) for a number of high profile companies, including Grey Interactive, Dell Computer Corporation, Marlborough Stirling financial and Norton Rose.

During Neil’s MSc, he specialised in psychoacoustics and spatial audio, in particular multichannel encoding. Prior to returning to Salford to work on the ‘Positive Soundscapes Project’, he completed Diploma in Media Composition from the Film Institute in Los Angeles and a composition course at Goldsmiths University. At the same time, working as a sound designer/composer on a number of independent films. One production was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006 and another was got an ‘honourable mention’ at The Salento International Film Festival, later that year.

Neil is currently on the board of the UK and Ireland Soundscape committee (UKISC) and is a supporter of the acoustic ecology movement and feels that the preservation of existing soundscapes is of great importance for future generations. Neil is also an avid ‘phonographer’ and has a large collection of binaural recordings captured all around the world.
